Press-release of 23.07.2008 «9th Session of the UNCTAD Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Competition Law and Policy»

During July 15-18, 2008 the Head of the Moscow Regional Office of the FAS Russia Mrs. Taisiya Tkacheva chaired the 9th session of the UNCTAD Intergovernmental Group of Experts (IGE) on Competition Law and Policy held in Geneva.

For the first time of cooperation the UNCTAD provided a representative of the FAS Russia with the given status. It emphasizes the high level of trust and respect to the FAS Russia' activity in the sphere of competition policy and enforcement.

Within the frameworks of the IGE UNCTAD the uniform competition policy is elaborated and actions on capacity building and technical assistance are undertaken. One of the priorities of the IGE UNCTAD activity is strengthening of the role of the developing countries in the sphere of competition policy.

The topical issues of the competition policy were discussed on this session of the IGE UNCTAD, in particular: balance of independence and accountability of competition authorities, attribution of competence to community and national competition authorities, abuse of dominance and unilateral conduct, capacity building and technical assistance.

Within the frameworks of the IGE UNCTAD the uniform competition policy is elaborated and actions on capacity building and technical assistance are undertaken. One of the priorities of the IGE UNCTAD activity is strengthening of the role of the developing countries in the sphere of competition policy.
